Imaging photometers and ray-tracing software packages have made it possible to capture model high-resolution accurate luminance maps. However, map measurement is rarely seen in professional practice, despite its ability evaluate visual parameters accurately directly, such as contrast, visual, size, target brightness. Two barriers the uptake of associated design measures include (1) lack knowledge range available, (2) difficulty assessing whether a luminance-based lighting method sufficient justifiable replacement for current illuminance-based practice. This paper reviews practice presents alternative human needs construct framework designing comparing methods.
